Tutoring & Enrichment
Academic Support
Our program provides 3 hours of programming for students K-8th grade three days a week (Tuesday-Thursday). In very small classroom settings, students receive support on classroom assignments. We create a triad of support between the schools, families and our program. Since we have open communication with the schools, we are able to hear from teachers and administration on student-specific areas that need growth.
Spiritual Support
We begin our program with music and singing, as well as a Bible story. Teachers lead students in small group discussions and Bible memory verses. Many of our students in the program ask to come to Sunday worship and we provide transportation to make that possible.
Physical & Emotional Support
Recognizing that many children have experienced trauma, all of our teachers are trauma informed and trained. We want to grow students in their emotional maturity, while understanding their individual backgrounds and situations. Additionally, we incorporate movement and play into every day.
Students that participate in the Tutoring and Enrichment Program are provided with wrap-around support for the entire family.
Before a student is enrolled in the program, they receive a home visit where El Cuerpo staff sit down with the family to assess needs and how we can connect the family with community resources.
Wrap-Around Support
By partnering with other community organizations, El Cuerpo links families to high quality resources.
Students in the program have the opportunity to build unique skills like woodworking, surfing and cooking. This is all possible thanks to partners like Kids Making It and Rise Up Community Farm.
Additionally, NourishNC is on site monthly with their Mobile Market to provide families with fresh produce and grocery items.
“Impressively, 8th graders this year in your program went from 8 major [behavioral incidents] and 40 minor incidents to 0 majors and 9 minors.
